Family Nature Night at Paonia Elementary
May 17th, 2017
With a plethora of outdoor themed activities students and their families came together at Paonia Elementary for SOLE Family Nature Night. Archery, fishing and paper making were crowd favorites!
Students and their families enjoyed an evening of fun with Colorado Parks & Wildlife and our excellent participating partners: Western Slope Conservation Center, The Nature Connection, Bird Conservancy and U.S. Forest Service.
Kids gathered around the trivia wheel to test their knowledge of Colorado’s wildlife!
Our partners from Western Slope Conservation Center and The Nature Connection shared a table making seed bombs with students and illustrating the importance of pollination. Seed bombs are clay balls packed with seeds that students can later toss onto bare ground to bring an explosion of colorful wildflowers to attract our favorite pollinators like honey bees and hummingbirds.
Archery and Fishing are always fun! Some students were testing out their marksmanship and angling skills for the first time, and now are certainly hooked on these outdoor activities.
Our friends from the U.S. Forest Service brought all their gear for paper making, while learning about all the different things we get from trees students also got to make their own sheet of handmade recycled paper!
The SOLE program would like to thank all of our partners, Paonia families, CPW staff/volunteers and all others that contributed in making this event a success!
